In the Spirit of Teddy Roosevelt, President of The Ripon Society Rescues a Duck

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In the spirit of the organization’s inspirational godfather, The Ripon Society’s President today rescued a duck – or duckling in this case – that had wandered out onto Massachusetts Avenue in the middle of rush hour traffic.

“I was walking to work this morning and spotted it sitting literally in the middle of the street,” stated Jim Conzelman, the President and CEO of The Ripon Society.

“Its mother wasn’t anywhere in sight and cars were racing by.  You could see it was frightened.  So I walked out and scooped it up and brought it into the office with me.  We found a warm spot for him and called the SPCA.”

The Ripon Society is a public policy organization that was founded in 1962 and takes its name from the town where the Republican Party was born in 1854 — Ripon, Wisconsin.  One of the main goals of the Ripon Society is to promote the ideas and principles that have made America great and contributed to the GOP’s past success.  These ideas include keeping our nation secure, keeping taxes low and having a federal government that is smaller, smarter and more accountable to the people.

Conzelman noted that The Ripon Society draws its inspiration from the vision and values of the 26th President of the United States, noted conservationist Theodore Roosevelt.  This in turn led, he added, to the duckling’s name – “Teddy Tweet.”

“Given our heritage and the sound he was making, it seemed to fit!”
