Statement of Jim Conzelman, President & CEO of The Ripon Society, On the Debt Limit Proposal Offered by the Speaker of the House

“The time has come for Republicans to stand together and support the Speaker of the House. The fact of the matter is we should be declaring victory right now, not arguing amongst ourselves. Think about it. Congress is not debating how much more we should be spending. It’s not debating how much more we should be taxing. We’re debating making government smaller and more efficient.

“Let’s not snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. There are more battles to come, and it’s important that we keep momentum – and the American people – on our side.”
