WASHINGTON, DC – The Ripon Society held a luncheon discussion yesterday afternoon with key staff members of the House Majority Leader’s Office, who, among other topics, discussed the legislative achievements of the GOP Majority in the 113th Congress and the prospects that Congress will return for a Lame Duck Session at the end of the year.
The staff members participating in the discussion included: Tim Berry, who serves as Chief of Staff; Neil Bradley, who serves as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy; Mike Franc, who serves as Policy Director; Mike Long, who serves as Communications Director; Natalie Buchanan, who serves as Director of Member Services; and Danielle Burr, who serves as Director of External Services.
“This is clearly a busy time of year with Members looking toward the election,” stated Jim Conzelman, the President & CEO of The Ripon Society. “But with the 113th Congress coming to a close, it’s also a good time to look back at the achievements of the past two years. From pushing back on the Administration as it attempts to impose costly new regulations on the U.S. economy to working with the Administration as it attempts to meet the ISIL threat, this has been a time of consequence for the House Majority. The purpose of yesterday’s discussion was to hear about their work during this time, and learn about the work that remains to be done after the election. I appreciate Tim Berry and his team for being with us to discuss these and other critical issues.”

According to Conzelman, the discussion was attended by a crowd of over 80 people and is a continuation in a series of discussions The Ripon Society has hosted with House leadership senior staff. Over the past two months, The Ripon Society has hosted similar discussions with senior staff members from the Speaker of the House and Conference Chair’s offices. Yesterday’s discussion with Team McCarthy was the 22nd discussion held in the series this year. Conzelman added that the next event in the series will be a October 15th discussion on comprehensive tax reform and the possibility of renewing expired tax extenders during the Lame Duck session with House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp. One week later, on October 22nd, Ripon will host the senior leadership team of House Majority Whip Steve Scalise. And on October 29th, The Ripon Society will host former NRCC Executive Director Guy Harrison and former NRSC Executive Director Rob Jesmer who will be with us to give a candid preview of the electoral landscape.
The Ripon Society is a public policy organization that was founded in 1962 and takes its name from the town where the Republican Party was born in 1854 – Ripon, Wisconsin. One of the main goals of The Ripon Society is to promote the ideas and principles that have made America great and contributed to the GOP’s success.
