Ripon Society Holds 2020 Election Preview with the Executive Directors of the NRCC & NRSC

WASHINGTON, DC — With just over four months left until the general election, The Ripon Society hosted a virtual discussion yesterday afternoon with two leaders of the GOP congressional campaign effort this year.

The leaders were Parker Poling and Kevin McLaughlin. Poling serves as Executive Director of the National Republican Congressional Committee, while Kevin McLaughlin serves as the Executive Director of the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

Together, they are leading the GOP effort to win back control of the U.S. House and retain control of the U.S. Senate on Capitol Hill. Poling and McLaughlin discussed this effort in a pair of virtual presentations, in which they not only highlighted some of the key races they are tracking around the country, but described the political landscape in America as we move forward this year.

“We appreciate Parker and Kevin for taking the time to join us yesterday afternoon” stated Jim Conzelman, the President & CEO of The Ripon Society. “Every election year has its unique set of challenges, but this election year is clearly more uniquely challenging than most. From the pandemic that forced us to shut down our once thriving economy to the protests that have erupted in recent weeks on our streets, this year’s campaign is being waged at a pivotal moment in our history to say the least.

“To that end, Republicans are fortunate to have Parker and Kevin at the helm of the party’s congressional campaign effort. They are pro’s pros who understand not only what it takes to mount a successful campaign in uncertain political times, but why it is so important for Republicans to hold a majority in both the House and Senate next year.”

“Every election year has its unique set of challenges, but this election year is clearly more uniquely challenging than most.”

According to Conzelman, yesterday’s virtual meeting was attended by a crowd of over 90 people, and was the 15th virtual event The Ripon Society has hosted since mid-March, and the 32nd event so far in 2020. He added that The Ripon Society will host two more virtual discussions next week with veteran pollster Ed Goeas, who will share his thoughts on the political environment and discuss the results of a recent survey of the American electorate, and U.S. Rep. Trey Hollingsworth (IN-9), who will discuss his role on the House Financial Services Committee and the steps the panel is taking to restart the economy in a safe and effective way.

The Ripon Society is a public policy organization that was founded in 1962 and takes its name from the town where the Republican Party was born in 1854 – Ripon, Wisconsin. One of the main goals of The Ripon Society is to promote the ideas and principles that have made America great and contributed to the GOP’s success. These ideas include keeping our nation secure, keeping taxes low and having a federal government that is smaller, smarter and more accountable to the people.
